Sonic '06. Mega Man X7. Bubsy 3D. These are all games many would consider "objectively bad". What DOES it mean for something to be objectively bad, anyway? That's what I want to answer with this post.
I'm not going to beat around the bush here, it means nothing. It has the same amount of value in discussion as "slop", and serves the exact same purpose (my opinion is more correct than your opinion)! You could say "The majority says it's bad, so it must be bad!" but you are not a number, you are not a graph, you are a person with your own experiences. I'm also not going to name specific fandoms (I lied, Sonic) but I feel like the idea of "objectively good" and "objectively bad" serves to perpetuate mob mentality, this sort of "You better like the right things, buddy..." mindset that doesn't benefit anyone
